Two Massachusetts men have been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged conspiracy to damage Harvard Medical School’s Goldenson Building using a large commercial firework. According to court documents, Logan David Patterson, 18, of Plymouth, and Dominick Frank Cardoza, 20, of Bourne, allegedly entered the medical school’s campus on Halloween night, climbed onto the roof of the Goldenson Building, and detonated an explosive device inside a research laboratory. The explosion triggered a fire alarm shortly before 3 a.m., causing damage within the Department of Neurobiology’s facilities.
Surveillance footage and witness accounts reportedly link both defendants to the scene, showing them entering the campus area, lighting fireworks, and later attempting to flee the vicinity. Investigators believe the explosive used was a large commercial firework that detonated within a wooden locker. Authorities, including the FBI, Harvard University Police, and several Massachusetts police departments, continue to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
Conspiracy to damage a building by means of an explosive is a serious federal offense. If convicted, Patterson and Cardoza each face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Federal courts take any act involving explosives or property destruction especially seriously, given the potential risks to public safety and critical infrastructure.
Anyone charged with this type of crime should seek experienced legal counsel immediately. A criminal defense attorney can examine the evidence, ensure due process rights are protected, and develop a strong defense strategy. While the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the potential consequences of a conviction underscore the importance of obtaining skilled representation when facing such grave allegations.
