This week Shawn Baillargeon, a 54-year-old Rutland, Massachusetts man, was arrested for the Rape of a Child.
The Rutland Police Department received a report of past sexual assaults that occurred in town over several years, as well as multiple complainants. This case was forwarded to the Rutland Police Department Detective Bureau who began an investigation into the allegations.
He faced the following charges:
- Aggravated Rape of a Child
- Rape of a Child
- Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child under 14
He was arrested by the Rutland Police Department with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police.
Section 13B of Massachusetts General Laws states: “Whoever commits an indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 10 years, or by imprisonment in the house of correction for not more than 21/2 years. A prosecution commenced under this section shall neither be continued without a finding nor placed on file.”
In a prosecution under this section, a child under the age of 14 years shall be deemed incapable of consenting to any conduct of the defendant for which such defendant is being prosecuted.
