Large Federal Crimes Bust by US Attorney in Boston, Over 40 Alleged Gang Members Face Multiple Counts of Theft Charges, Drug Charges, Gun Charges as well as Covid Fraud and Racketeering Conspiracy Charges
US Attorney Joshua Levy accused over 40 alleged members of the Heath Street Gang of a wide range of Federal Charges yesterday.
According to the US Attorney’s Office in Boston the gang was “Formed in the 1980s, it is alleged that the Heath Street Gang is comprised of over 150 members and has historically been involved in acts of violence to preserve and protect the Gang’s power, territory and reputation.”
Some of those arrested were suspected of being involved in shootings and three separate murders. Many of the arrests included gang members, but also several associates and some people who were charged were already in Federal Custody.
Some were accused of abusing the CARES Act loans and committing fraud. Levy alleged that the gang members bragged about using some of the funds to buy more than 100 guns.“All told, the COVID fraud in this case is over $900,000,” Levy said
Gang members recruited and forced younger community members to get involved. Police said that “They used fear, intimidation, violence to gain personally. They took advantage of the youngest amongst us. They took advantage of the sons and daughters in these neighborhoods and actually turned them to a life of crime.”
