Renetta Golden-Larimore of Kansas City, Missouri, was recently sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for her role in a large-scale Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) fraud scheme. Golden-Larimore pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in two separate cases involving over $900,000 in fraudulently obtained PPP loans. These loans were made available under the CARES Act, which was enacted to provide emergency financial assistance to small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
From February 2021 to May 2022, Golden-Larimore submitted dozens of false applications on behalf of others, charging fees between $2,000 and $7,000 per application. In many instances, she fabricated IRS forms for fictitious businesses or exaggerated the income of existing businesses to make them eligible for loans. In total, she prepared at least 43 fraudulent applications that were funded, resulting in a significant loss to the Small Business Administration.
Golden-Larimore has been ordered to forfeit over $75,000 in personal gains and pay more than $900,000 in restitution. Twenty-one other individuals have also been convicted in connection with the scheme, illustrating the widespread nature of this fraud network and the government’s commitment to pursuing those who exploit federal relief programs.
Those charged with PPP fraud face serious penalties, including lengthy prison terms, substantial fines, forfeiture of assets, and restitution orders. Federal prosecutors take these cases seriously, particularly when fraud involves large losses or organized efforts. If you or someone you know is under investigation or facing charges related to PPP fraud, early legal representation is essential to ensure rights are protected and all legal options are considered.
