Dhar Law, LLP Aids Massachusetts Family in Immigration Crisis

Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 15:18

Dhar Law, LLP prevails on two crucial post-judgment Motions to Reopen in the case of a Massachusetts immigrant family.   With two daughters born in the United States, this Mother and Father attempted to obtain their legal permanent residency with the assistance of a Florida-based religious organization.  Although the couple traveled to Florida multiple times and paid the organization a significant sum of money, the organization turned out to be a fraudulent scheme operated by an individual who falsely told prospective clients that he formerly worked for the Department of Homeland Security.  See: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Reverend-Prays-on-Illegal-Aliens-1048...

Both Mother and Father were ultimately ordered deported in absentia by the Miami Immigration Court, a fact that was never brought to their attention due to the organization's control over this family's immigration case.  In March 2011, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (ICE), entered this family's Massachusetts home early one morning, seizing Mother’s passport and arresting Father and placing him in detention for the next several months.

Attorneys Vikas S. Dhar and Michael Bozza have prevailed on two separate Motions to Reopen the family’s cases before two different Immigration Judges in Miami, despite opposition from the Department of Homeland Security.

The Firm was able to enlist the help of the Honorary Consul for this family's country of origin, as well as local community support, to petition for the release of the Father from custody.  As of May 20, 2011, the family is once again reunited, preparing for the next step in their cases.
